Just a Moment in Time – Priceless

Many artists agree that there is beauty in life’s candid moments.

Unposed people, just interacting, conversing and enjoying each other’s company often makes for the most interesting images.

Many years ago I learned an important lesson about capturing the beauty of the candid moment.  Look behind you, because stuff is happening there too.

I photographed this image recently at a backyard party. Everywhere you look in this image, there is something happening.  Small groups of people having conversations, laughing, some discussing more serious subjects, some are looking away, ready to move on to the next group and their next discussion.

So, even though this image is dark and grainy (shot at ISO 32000!), it caught my attention. You see, it’s not always the image with the perfect exposure and perfect pose that makes it precious, but the contect of the image itself.

Deb and Mark – Their 40th Wedding Anniversary – Video

Each wedding anniversary is a milestone and a time to be celebrated.

For the life you’ve built as a couple, for the life challenges you’ve  endured as a couple and for the love you have for each other.

I met Deb at a business networking event. We started talking about the surprise party she was planning to celebrate the 40th wedding to the man who is her rock . This was going to be a cocktail party with the ladies in beautiful dresses, men in tuxedos and classic entertainment.

And I knew that Deb was going to pull it off.

Deb is the most alive person you will ever meet. With a smile that literally lights up the room. Mark is quieter and smiles broadly when he sees friends or Deb, the love of his life.

So what makes this event so special?

To be candid, all couples have their story. The life story that they have written together. With the high points, the low points and the moments that test everything.

I don’t know Deb and Mark’s whole story, just a small piece.

Both of their Sons have disabilities that require 24 hour care. So Deb and Mark haven’t taken extended vacations separately or together, ever.

This event was a tribute and a celebration of their relationship, the friends who they have relied on and the caregivers who have been with them for many years.

Here’s just a peek at the party. The entrance of the bride and (surprised ) groom, the embraces, the decorations and the pure joy on everyone’s faces as they all celebrated with Deb and Mark.

Travis Roy Foundation Spring Fling {Event}

It was such a gala atmosphere the evening of the recent Travis Roy Foundation Spring Fling which was held on April 21st at the beautiful Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston MA.

Everyone was in a party mood from the moment they arrived.  I started photographing the people just enjoying the night and Everyone wanted a picture with Travis.  I kept going up to Travis after a few shots and saying “have you had enough?” … but he just said “let’s keep going”.  I think it must be tough to be that popular.

Then it was time to head into the main ballroom for some serious celebrating!
But first Travis took a moment to thank his Foundation’s supporters for all of their help.  His mission and that of the Travis Roy Foundation is a personal crusade for Travis and he made it clear that what they have accomplished with their help has changed so many lives.

The band for the evening was MIdnight Goggles  and the crowd loved them. ( As you can plainly see from the images) .

Now I will typically take some photos of the food … but I have to say that I simply forgot.  You see, I was too busy enjoying the super – fabulous – incredible desserts !  That and trying to capture images of the crowd who were having a great time!

The Dons Rock the Abbott

The Dons are Boston’s rock band and they have worked very hard to get to that point. And there is no sign of that stopping. This video is images from their performance at Bad Abbotts in Quincy MA on April 18, 2009. It’s kind of a good place for me to capture both the band and the crowd. Everyone was prepared to rock. So sit back and enjoy.

The Portrait Party

One thing I like to do when shooting an event in bring along a nice background and capture some simple formal portraits as the guests arrive.
Everyone loves the images they receive and I get to meet everyone in 5 minute segments.

But then later in the evening, groups come back for some less formal, OK, a bit goofy shots that just make the events so much fun.

Please let me know if you want to learn more about how the Portrait Party event is structured.
